It’s Blue Pomegranate Time

Every year my girlfriend and I go to a garden walk at the home of The Blue Pomegranate.  This is a wonderful boutique here in Omaha that supports regional artists of all kinds.  In the spring for 2 weekends they open their yard for a garden tour enhanced with all the garden art for you to purchase.  There are literally hundreds of pieces to choose from, all mediums and I always come home with something.  But mostly I go for the walk thru the gardens.

This garden is truly a labor of love and the perfect backdrop to showcase these fun and eccentric art forms.  The garden doesn’t feel like a professionally landscaped, perfectly manicured, in a very expensive neighborhood kind of yard.  But a very approachable well thought out garden with good solutions for problem areas, backing up to a ravine for a bit of privacy, in this robust middle class neighborhood.  I always walk away applauding the home owners, because it is a yard that is welcoming enough for a hot dog BBQ and lovely enough for a back yard wedding.  To me this is what a back yard should be.  There is a surprise around every corner and every year their seems to be a new project for your eyes to behold.

You approach the garden just to the left of the garage and you immediately know that you are in for something special.  You walk thru an iron gate and you realize that you are thrust into a bit of a mystery as you walk along the mulched path.  You see hanging baskets hung low in the window well of a basement window on your right and lovely shade perennials on the left.  Then you begin to hear the trickle of water as a very small “brook” starts to flow into a lovely little pond.  Then the yard opens up to this marvelous oasis that is now a shoppers paradise and full of eye candy.  I have to say I love this yard so much.

I am going to let the pictures tell the story.  Enjoy

Babbling Brook

These little glass sculptures were so cool the white parts look like little tiny glass beads

A sweeping view upon entering the back yard.

My friend bought this little piece.  Would love to see it on a sunny day.  Today is cloudy and just 55 degrees.

These copper spinners were fun.

A spectacular and large sculpture.  Would be very cool backing up to a fence.  More impactful.

This yard is quite expansive and is sectioned off into many gardening beds with a border even going up to the ravine.

Loved the fish swimming in the lambs ear!

Loved the sculpture with the big red flowers in the square.  Big and showy it was kind of announcing itself.  I Am Here!

A great place to pop a squat!  A Nebraska State sign with all the important landmarks that tells you what Nebraska is all about.

Love the crow and the hanging basket was the perfect accompaniment.

I think I need a chandelier hanging from my tree!

Loved all the Totem Poles.

These spinners were spectacularly fun hanging from the trees.  Even the parts of the garden that are a work in progress were not a deterrent to all the natural beauty.

Love the moose.  He’s kind of a permanent fixture here guarding the garden.  The wind chimes from recycled glass made the most beautiful music.  I wouldn’t want Coke hanging in my yard but I sure do drink it.  Diet of course!!!

Venus Fly Trap anyone?  Nope not in my lifetime!

No I’m not Flamingo’s either but I loved the way they moved in the breeze.

These were simply amazing.  I wish the picture did them justice.  Made I think from plastic they literally GLOWED on this very cold and cloudy day.  It was like they were lit from within.  They made such a statement.  Again not to my old loving heart but in a Mid Century Modern environment they’de be perfect.

Colorful mushrooms anyone.

Loved this Bird House!

And the newest area of the garden as we bid a very fond farewell.  Until next year.
