Happy Mother’s Day

With the sun shining, I grabbed my ratty sweater and my first cup of coffee and went out to explore the morning. Could this be the one? The Mother’s Day that I finally get to set a pretty table, and have brunch on the deck. This has NEVER happened before. The dappled sunlight and only slightly cool temperatures won the day.

Last night my granddaughter and I had a discussion about giving it a try. We thought about different ideas from blankets at every seat, the portable heater, to the fire pit going. With all of those options, we decided to go for it. No, the deck is not dressed up for company just yet. There is still some planting to be done, and things aren’t sparkling clean but, I took out a pan of soapy water and a sponge and got to work. After all it was just the family and no one cares if the mirrors aren’t mounted on the wall yet!

That done, H and I decided to start building the table. Using an antique thrift shop quilt for the anchor we then set just a simple place setting. That complete we started talking about what to do for a center piece. This 54″ diameter leaves lots of opportunity for a fun table scape. Again simple is may mantra these days, I made a couple of suggestions, and let H decide. She went with the wooden pale that I had just added roses to. Then I suggested she go to the depository on the kitchen table, for possibilities. We added a couple of terra-cotta pots, and some lambs for whimsy, and called it a day.

Then my daughter and her family came for the meal preparation. She has a new Ninja Griddle that she considers the bomb! She wanted to show us what it could do. Eggs, sausage, hash browns, and bacon. We even had pink pancakes! Everything was yummy and enjoyed by all. A feast to be sure, add in Mimosa’s, brownies and lemon bars, no-one walked away hungry.

It was such a reward to be able to sit back, drink mimosa’s with the husband and my son-in-law, watch the sun play, the baby bunnies in the yard, and not have to worry about what was going on the kitchen. Trusting everything would be great.

A perfect morning with the people I love most. The only two missing were Florida. So many holidays without them but, I know they are happy and settled where they are, and we will have a conversation on the phone. It works.

I am so grateful for the females in my life. The women who framed me, and held my hand when I needed it. The daughter’s who have seen me at my worst and love me anyway. The sister who makes me giggle, and the granddaughter who has come home. The common bond of motherhood. That understanding with a wink and a smile that only a mother knows.

I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day and were able to indulge in whatever it is that makes you the mother, sister, daughter, and friend that we all deserve.

Thanks for stopping

Shelley
