The snow is coming down and the wind is rattling the windows so I thought it was a good time for a quick post on my very small Master Bedroom. It’s basically a nickel tour but there are some interesting things in here to share.
The highlight for me is the bed which my dad built for me years ago.
We had seen a picture in a magazine I think Colonial Homes back in the day and we essentially copied it. Made from 5/4 pine, I painted it several years ago with Amy Howard Chalk Paint Bauhaus Buff. After years of looking at it stained I love the softness the paint brought to it. Notice the paneled sides that are reminiscent of a church pew.
On the bed I have a combination Pinecone Hill Sheets that I embroidered myself, there’s nothing more luxurious than putting your head down on an embroidered pillow case. Even if you did do it yourself. Dust ruffle I made from linen and added some inexpensive tape I picked up at Joann but made it a bit showier and more textural by adding a layer of cream linen that I frayed the edges on. It just gives it an element of surprise, Shams I also made you can see them peaking out behind the embroidered cases.
The plaid wool pillows were so much fun to make. I had made the pillows a few years ago from a small piece of Ralph Lauren wool I had leftover from a design project but always felt like they needed something more. While scrolling my Cricut Design Space last winter I discovered the fox design. Falling in love I decided to cut it out with my Cricut, and iron on the vinyl and attach the images to my plaid pillows. Details, it’s all about the details, made all the difference. A buffalo check thrown on the bed adds a bit of Christmas cheer along with my dads crazy folk art calico cat.
Above the bed is a very rare and old 18th Century Lion Rampant tavern sign. Love this piece and it was the first thing that came with me from my parents estate. Again, not sure where it would end up. I’m still working on the arrangement above the bed. I had plates and platters there for years so I’m still trying to figure out the right combination.
Pennsylvania raised panel shutters with original iron lock box hold the left corner of the room while an antique French Voters Registration from 1824 holds the right.
To bring in a bit more Christmas I have a 3′ feather tree on the chest of drawers with some favorite vintage Radko, and hand made felt ornaments I picked up at a little shop here in town, last year.
Love the star on top just made of paper with my Cricut machine.
Pretty simple but it’s comfortable and going to certainly be cozy when I snuggle under that down comforter tonight with the wind rattling the windows. Well that’s it for now!
Coming up tomorrow will be the lower level decked out for Christmas.
Thanks so much for stopping by I appreciate it so much.
