Let me just say I am still at it. You would think I lived in a mansion! I don’t, just a humble suburban split entry house. I’ve been taking my time, but now I’m just ready to be done! This year I decided not to decorate the cubby with my Spode Christmas Tree as I have the last couple of years. I love it in there, but, I didn’t want to hassle with it. In removing the Redware from the Welsh Cupboard I just moved a lot of it to the cubby.
That is the joy of having some of these cabinet spaces. They are easy to change on a whim, and they give you an opportunity to flex your design muscle.
This year the cabinet is much less flamboyant. The colors of the earth flows more naturally into the kitchen.
This vintage Duncan Royal Medievil Santa with a long beard, comes eyeball to eyeball with me every time I walk by. He is beautifully painted and has lovely eyes.
Then I just tucked in a couple of bottle brush trees and a couple of nordic trees and called it good.
I’m loving the play of the patterns on the red ware and the yellow ware colander against the nordic trees.
In the rest of the kitchen it is pretty much the same as in previous years. Wreaths above the sink.
A small bottle brush shaped topiary in an onion soup bowl on the shelf above the sink. Love this little tree. I wish I would have bought more and I have no recollection of where I picked it up.
In keeping with the color going on in the living room I dressed the table very simply. Starting with just a piece of Ralph Lauren wool plaid I’ve had for years, it becomes a runner. We don’t use this table on a daily basis so I am free to play with it. Most days you will find a stack of books on it that I have yet to open, (good winter reading) and a bowl with potatoes in it! I added a small lit scruffy tree in my Mocha Ware bowl, with a wreath on top of the bowl. I made it last year from a grape vine wreath and shed. You know the faux greens that shed while you are decorating for the holiday.
I added in some orange slices, and like the result.
My shutters just seemed bare, so I quickly gathered up some leftover greens and turned them into a trailing nosegay! For what reason? Absolutely none.
And just because I can’t leave well enough alone. I had a piece of ribbon in my hand and I just had to do it. My 18th Century tavern sign got a bit of Christmas too! I’m laughing at myself.
I have to say the chandelier this year turned out very well. I used 3-5′ cedar garlands, and then added some very old twisty, vines & berries. These things have to be 30 years old. I still need to find a dingle dangle to hang from the center but I’ll figure it out.
Here is a simple vignetter just for fun on the counter.
An old French copper pot, an antique wooden pale, and of course my dominos. Using a small wreath again on top of the pale worked like a charm to hold this large mercury glass ornament.
Do you decorate your kitchen for the holiday? I haven’t until the last couple of years, except for the chandelier. It is fun to reimagine things though. Leave me a comment, if you have a question I might be able to help with. Of course let me know what you think.
Thanks for stopping.

Beautiful styling, Shelley! It does take a long time to achieve the look you’ve got in your head, doesn’t it? Christmas decorating is definitely a labor of love and a gift to ourselves and our homes;) Thanks for inviting me over!
