An Antique Show, and Estate Sale were on the agenda for today. Checking out my stamina, I decided to take in an antique show. I had never heard of this show before but, I get so hungry to see beautiful antiques. A few weeks ago I went to the Lauritzen Garden’s antique show and of course saw some incredibly beautiful items. Coming soon. I did take pictures. This show wasn’t that!
At a firehouse I didn’t expect much. I paid my 6.00 to get in and saw there were about 20 vendors is all. Ok, I’ll at least check it out. Not expecting a whole lot, I did see some things I had never seen before. Some wonderful large format German greeting decorations. They were too large to be cards. Pressed paper and they were fabulous. I didn’t manage any pictures but these two pieces were choice. At 95.00 and 150.00, though I’m sure worth it, they were too rich for my blood. Oh I would have enjoyed owning one of them.
Wandering thru I did see a lot of the usual that you find in the midwest, so nothing I really couldn’t live without. That is until I turned a corner. Sitting on a card table were several spools of silk ribbon. What’s this? If you’ve ever read any of my Christmas Posts you know I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my silk ribbon. Wide silk ribbon, plush pink, coral, copper, black and white taffeta ribbon, a small piece of wide plaid taffeta ribbon. How much I ask. $4.00 she informs me. I’m holding a small piece of wide coral ribbon and I think ok I’ll get this. In two pieces and at about 6″ wide I say to myself, yeah it’s still worth 4.00. I move onto the spools complete with very old paper separating the ribbon to keep it from bruising. I say how much, this is a spool I have no idea how many yards are on it, she informs me 4.00 bucks. Ok, now I’m intrigued. Two spools of blush, oh and pretty copper, yup it will be mine.
We got into a conversation and she told me it belonged to a friend of hers who had recently passed away. The woman had lived in England and that’s where the ribbon came from. I bought 4 bundles and asked if she could do better on the price. She looked a bit disappointed but told me 18.00. I gave her my 20.00 and said you know what it is totally worth it. She was happy, I was happy and I bought 1 more bundle! And now I know the story. It”s in a good home now. It will see the light of day.
On leaving there I headed over to find my counties voters box to turn in my ballot, and then I headed to the estate sale. In Bellevue just outside of Omaha it is a largely military community. Sac Air Force Base is there. Because of the Questers Group I belong to I am finding myself more and more into Bellevue. Areas I have never been before. I plugged the address into my GPS and headed over. The home was in a circle clear up at the end. Unfortunately I parked on the street and had quite a hike up the hill to get to the house. At one point I wasn’t sure I was going to make it. I was determined.
This home was full. Some nicer antiques and a lot of primitives. Right up my alley. After catching my breath I wander into the dining room and I find Beeswax Candles. Hand dipped still in their box 2 to a box, with tissue. I recognize the box as being Williamsburg candles. There are 3 boxes, 2 different sizes. How much? 5.00 each, well I’ll take those. I bought these same candles last Christmas and paid 24.00 for 2 candles. I got 6 candles for 15.00. Pretty good start.
I see a nice blue transferware bowl and pitcher but have no need, a copper bed warmer that isn’t quite as nice as mine for 95.00. Although I do need to polish my copper! A lovely architectural engraving in a burl wood frame that I liked for 95.00 but I left it. Go upstairs past the mink jackets, into the bedding and tablecloths but don’t see anything that trips my trigger. I’m always looking for beautiful linens. Things I can embroider on.
I make my way into the kitchen and they had some gorgeous copper pieces I would have loved to have. A small French jelly mold that I am now kicking myself for leaving behind. A rare French square copper boiler that was gorgeous at just 750.00.
Now I’m ready to take my candles and head out when I spy a pinecone orb, a paper mache deer head, and a twisty free form grapevine wreath. Yes, Yes and Yes Please! The deer head was 7.00, orb was 5.00, and the wreath was 5.00.
So today I spent about 55.00 on a bunch of potentially wonderful nonsense and I am thrilled. Yes that darn mold is going to haunt me. It already is but I’m sure I’ll get over myself. Maybe!!!
All in all it was a good day, after I caught my breath. I got everything done I needed to do, and had a bit of fun in the process. Looks like I have some crafting to do. Hope you have a great weekend.
Thanks for stopping
