Well like everyone this is not the table I planned to set for Thanksgiving but after much discussion and pondering we all decided to stay in our own bubble. I was looking forward to preparing this meal and sharing it with my family this year, as we didn’t do anything last Thanksgiving.
After losing my mom last year and going thru their home with 50 years of collections and having to prepare to get the house on the market I was just plain tired. Both physically and emotionally I just wanted to crawl into bed and go to sleep. So that’s pretty much what I did.
This year I was ready and excited and I had designed the coolest table in my head. After spending a week in our lower level room getting it ready for Christmas I was tired! On Thanksgiving morning these dishes were easily accessible and I decided they would be great for dinner for two.
Though the meal included a turkey breast instead of a big robust turkey it didn’t include my grandfathers dressing, the pumpkin pie was store bought instead of my moms recipe with the secret ingredient, and we forgot the cranberries and black olives. After 47 years of marriage we had another first. Thanksgiving for Two.
So we survived it and actually had a very pleasant evening. Still missing our small and mighty family but knowing they were all safe, and loved well.
We look forward to next year when we can all be together, hip to hip in gravy making, and noise. Telling the grand boys to put their feet down when their at the table and passing the black olives.
Traditions new and old, the spice of life. Please stay safe and let’s all live like we’re supposed to so next year we don’t need to make any sacrifices.
Thanks for stopping and much gratitude!
