A Fresh Look at the Welsh Cupboard

Over the weekend we had fabulous weather and I stayed in a played with the Welsh Cupboard.  All the redware came out and put downstairs and the dishes came up. I was sad to see the red ware go because I had specifically curated that entire collection with that cabinet in mind and I think it was pretty magical.  But after 10 years and a million iterations I was ready for a lighter look.

I asked the husband to help me take stuff down after the hundredth time I brought stuff up.  The lower level is a disaster area between getting the dishes out and my sewing machine up and all the paraphernalia for that.  The husband hollers up where do you want me to put this and I said any place you can find a spot!  Well a lot of it ended up on the floor.  And then the grand boys came!  Talk about the booby trap special. That room is where they hang out now.  They’re 9 and 7 and they didn’t have much room to play but they managed with no breakage.

I found a beautiful piece of fabric for pillows that is just gorgeous with my “wedding dishes”.  That makes them VERY VINTAGE! The minute I saw this fabric online I thought, I wonder if the colors would be just right?  Yup I was right.  It’s fabulous with them.

I hadn’t even seen these dishes in a while but I still love them.  I picked them out when I was 18!  One of the sets of dishes I brought from my moms was a set of Wedgewood Creamware with a Shell Edge.  I knew her dishes would be fabulous with my Wedgewood Potpourri, the creams match perfectly and I wanted to try them together.

I have lived with a quiet palette for so long in my upholstery I am ready for some color and pattern. We’ll see how long that lasts!

I have plans to paint the cabinet this summer.  We’ll see.  Anyway, up came the dishes and it turned out VERY FANCY!  I’m not used to fancy anymore.  I started styling it with the normal number of books and even tried to bring in some red books, well that absolutely didn’t work.  That didn’t even get a “we’ll live with that for a bit”.

I worked in some other things just to tone down the fancy a bit and in the end I decided less is more and after 2 days walked away.

I swapped out a pair of ship prints I had down stairs with the water color ship prints because these have blue in them.  I went downstairs and made a couple of pillows for the sofa out of my pretty fabric and my favorite thing was filling a small old bucket with flowers, putting it on the pot shelf, and hiding bunnies in it.

That will be about the extent of my Easter decorating!

So what do you think?  Do you like the rustic redware and company or do you prefer the pretty?  Please let me know I’m anxious to hear.

Thanks for stopping
