A Few Last Bits of Christmas

As the fireworks explode and the “Happy New Year” wishes are called out, I wanted to share a few last bits of Christmas before the big tear down. Things will stay up for a few more days, as we have one more event – just a simple family meal on Sunday with my granddaughter’s family and my daughter’s family. My granddaughter finds it too complicated to share Christmas day with us because there are so many places she has to be. I decided forever more, we would have a family meal together on the first Sunday after the new year. That will be our day. Unfortunately, Florida wasn’t going to make it this year, but we are always small and mighty!

Taking a look around the house

Barn Siding and salvaged doors give some character to this nothing of a space. Oh and I can’t forget the fancy crystal chandelier I picked up at a flea market for only $35.00. It was absolutely filthy! I just wanted to see what it looked like. I had no intension of using it. Then, I thought, why not! I just added a few touches to the lower level powder room: a large yellow ware bowl filled with pinecones, a small wreath, and a paper eight-point star that I made several years ago.

The Victorian door just gets sleigh bells and a wreath with guess what, a blue bow!!! Let’s take a walk back upstairs for just a few more images.

The Trumpeting Gabriel that I carved many, many years ago, is always hanging in this window. At Christmas, she gets a tin star that I added glitter to, and a paper rosette that I had fun making back in the day.

A bit more of the living room.

The cubby got decked out, too, as you move into the kitchen. Spode Christmas Tree dishes take center stage, with a Peddler Santa, then a large mercury glass ornament nested on a bit of greens (with of course, more ribbon).

A look at the Table

The table for Christmas morning breakfast, was very simple. I just reused some items that were already on the table. Added a piece of plaid Ralph Lauren wool for a runner that I had in the bedroom. The dishes for this meal was, you guessed it, Spode Christmas Tree. A couple of years ago I was able to pick up four cedar placemats. I used the chargers at the head of the table.

Then, there is this pretty little corner in the main bathroom. When I brush my teeth before I go to bed, pretty much in the dark, I look in the mirror to see this is in the reflection.

The very best gift for Christmas, and the most important accessory a girl could have, is this one… my great grand baby!

As I get ready to pack up the last bits of Christmas, I think about how satisfying it is to know that I have collected well, and with meaning. I am always so pleased with the end result once everything comes out and gets placed each year. Oh, I do have a love/hate relationship with the stuff, like most of you. Yes, it is a ton of work! After all, to be able to live with something you have created yourself, and feel so satisfied, is an unbelievable accomplishment.

To be able to proudly share it with all of you is a gift to me. I thank you for taking the time to be here, and sharing your thoughts with me. It means the world to me. Happy New Year!

Like always, thanks for stopping!
