A Frisbee, 2 Grand Boys on a Thursday Afternoon

Every once in awhile something magical happens on an average Thursday afternoon.  My daughter had asked us to watch the boys for a couple hours before soccer practice. The boys are now 9 and 7, and over the winter when they came over there was a lot of time gaming or watching tv.  You know they just don’t want to hang out with Nanna and Poppy any more.

Don’t get me wrong, we do lots of activities together, trips to the amazing Omaha zoo, the natural history museum, and our botanical gardens, fishing with Poppy.  You know stuff, outside the house.  But when it comes to home they just aren’t interested in hanging out.

I was watering the newly planted flowers when they came on Thursday so you know, we were outside.  They immediately wanted to take up their posts in the lower level, I suggested they grab the T Ball, soccer ball or the frisbee.  Well the 9 year old tossed the first frisbee on the neighbors roof!  No retrieving it.  So we kept pretty close custody of the second one.  Let me just say that my Frisbee skills are terrible, which proved to be quite comical, and the 7 year old and I were in hot pursuit, with the 9 year old doing a play by play announcing our points, coming up with ridiculous rules and all around making this simple game of Frisbee just really fun.

The magic came when the 7 year old said to me “Nanna this is the most fun I’ve ever had with you”.  Well this comment gave me pause.  I thought of all the very “special” things we’ve done together include a weekend in Kansas City to ride “The Polar Express” and going to the Children’s Museum, sliding down the big slide at The Central Park Mall, and I thought yeah this plain old Thursday afternoon is pretty special too, and all it took was a frisbee.  Thank you to those very special grand boys who turned an everyday Thursday into a magical moment in time.

May your Mothers Day Weekend be filled with hugging family and magical moments that you will remember for a lifetime.

What magical moments have happened to you recently?

Thanks for stopping
