Today I had some time between appointments so I decided to take a quick run to Plattsmouth, NE. Just 20 minutes from downtown Omaha it might as well be a world away. I haven’t been there in a couple of years. Let’s face it I haven’t been anywhere in a year! But with the confidence of one vaccine in my arm I decided to venture out. Fully masked of course.
Plattsmouth is a cute little midwestern town that sits at the mouth of the Platte River. Old town Plattsmouth has many wonderful old buildings, with a recently renovated Business District.
Buildings are quaint and the two block main drag seemed to be bustling with coffee and sandwich shops, restaurants, and bakeries and even a couple of antique shops and a reclaimed painted furniture shop that was closed as was one of the antique shops. I’ll just have to go back.
The one antique shop I managed to get in had a few fun finds, like this mammoth dough bowl on stand, a couple of spinning wheels, miniature hay bails done by Amish children, yikes!
Then I found a couple of Glass Humidors, a fun old piano stool, and then I spied this great old little chair with very nice carving and this darling wicker chair.
Were people really that much smaller back in the 19th Century?
This fireplace screen was huge and the embroidery was beautiful and in really great shape. Obviously priorities were not comfort but keeping the cold draft out!
As I wound my way out of the shop I came across this huge but beautiful dresser.
Though most of what I saw today was not to my taste it was fun to get back out there to see what is around. I did make a buy though. I will share it with you in the next post. It’s going to be a bit of a project.
I then made my way up into the “hills”. I wanted to see if I could spy any cool old houses. Do you ever do that? I never get tired of looking at old homes. From a distance and on a bit of a bluff I came across this old beauty.
Known as “The Bankers House” it was built in 1883 and is now a B&B. They have 3 rooms available from 75.00-95.00. I about choked when I looked them up and saw the cost of the rooms. When was the last time you could rent a room for less than 125.00 a night. I might just have to check this out. We’ll see. The rooms looked nice online though.
I then came across this cutie across the street. I would just love to get my hands on some of these big old homes and wave my magic wand. For me that would be the thrill of a lifetime.
Do any of you have fantasies about restoring old homes? See anything here that trips your trigger?
Well that was how I spent my day thanks for stopping I appreciate you being here.
