Sneak Peaks/Creating Chaos and Terror

Ok well, last week got away from me. Between our online sales for the ALO thrift shop and client appointments, getting taxes done, oh and the Robotics State Tournament, I certainly didn’t get everything done.

Then there was the mess I created from the primary bedroom refresh. Yeah that took some doing. I’m still not done with that, as I had to order some things I’m waiting on. The more time I spend in our room, the better I like it. It is a nice contrast from my black and white room which will be back at some point. But this is going to be a quiet and restful change for summer.

I wish I could say a refresh just took a switch in bedding. For me it’s not so easy. It’s an opportunity to stretch my design muscle, and create something new from something I already have. It becomes a domino effect that moves from room to room until all the pieces are standing straight and proud again. I’m still not there yet, but I am getting closer.

While I’m making decisions and waiting on a couple of things for the bedroom, I had to figure out what to do with the black dishes. Whether to store or use. This is the domino effect I’m speaking of.

To be truthful, I never liked these black dishes. My intent was to sell them when I brought them home from my mom’s. The dishes are very old, first period transferware a pattern called “Corian”.

Transferware was introduced in Staffordshire England and became popular from 1820-1830’s. It came in lots of different patterns and a boat load of colors. The black is called Mulberry. Almost every pottery in the area began manufacturing transferware. Some even manufactured the same scenes with just minor adjustments to the pattern. Transferware is often referred to as Staffordshire. There was a resurgence around 1890 when it became popular again so having these first period dishes is quite remarkable on my mom’s part.

When I bought the black and white quilt I knew these dishes were going to be the thing to take that ordinary PB quilt to the next level. Although not overly fond of the pattern on the dishes, I loved the magic they made with that quilt. This was my favorite arrangement above the bed.

But what to do about them now? Then I thought about the Welsh Cupboard. I’ve never used them there, but wait, didn’t I just refresh that cupboard? Well yes, yes I did! That thought made me curious. I knew I wouldn’t have enough to fill the cabinet out and I would need support but, I just wanted to see if I could make them work.

I love them in there and the way the cupboard turned out. I am still tweaking so you only get a sneak peak.

, Then if I bring black into the living room what else do I have to support it? OH the dangerous webs we weave. I can’t just change the cupboard! Of course I could, but things always need to make sense.

So I will leave you here and get back to work. Does anyone else out there create chaos and terror every time they try to change something? Let me know in comments.

Thanks for stopping
