Between the ALO Thrift Shop and client appointments I’ve been busy. We received a donation of 25 pieces of Halloween Department 56 so that stopped the presses! We had to get all that stuff listed and online in a timely manner to take advantage of this crazy holiday. Researching all that was interesting and kind of fun. There are some great deals to be had at assistanceleagueomaha.org.
I learned all about Uranium Glass. Who knew there was such a thing. Originating in Germany in the 1930’s it is green in color and glows under a blue light. We received a donation of a candy dish. Wouldn’t you just love to eat candy that has been stored in that! Well, they say it is only minimally toxic. It will make a wonderful display piece on a stack of books in a cabinet or vignette. It resembles depression glass and the shape of our piece is really cute. Again if you’re interested it can be found in our online store. Also if you’re a Beauty and the Beast Collector we have a nice selection of that as well. Now is the time to start making your choices for the upcoming holiday. Please check us out.
I’m in the process of finishing up a project for a client that we’ve been working on for many months. Updating a 1980’s story and a half. The before and after is quite remarkable. Sometimes all you need is a bit of elbow grease and a facelift! We’re waiting on a couple of finishing touches and then I can share. I’ve fallen in love with her dog!
For this same client we gilded an old mirror that she had. We just got it done this morning so it is still drying. Here are a few pictures of that.
They will get it hung so you can see it in context. If you would like to learn how to use leafing foils you can find that here.https://fortheloveofold.com/blog/restoration-of-the-3417-sign-gilding-the-lily/. This is quite easy to do. Have no fear!
The only holiday I decorate for is Christmas but I do like a bit of a lighter look in the summer. In the summer I don’t want to think about the inside. My mornings on the deck are over unfortunately, so it was time to reset the clock. Bring fall back into the living room and kitchen. I didn’t do much but I was pleased with the few tweaks I made from previous fall seasons.
I have never used these dishes in this cabinet before. I wasn’t sure if I would like the advertising ironstone with the dishes but I do smile when I walk by so I guess it works. What do you think?
I will leave you with the last dregs of the garden. The blue hour hides a multitude of sins!!!
Thanks for stopping
Shelley
Perhaps a pumpkin or two, a witch hat and a boo did I scare you. 🌴🍻😘
