It’s been a week. A 4:15AM wakeup from our granddaughter to inform us, we had water running into the basement has given us a week of consternation for sure. Water pouring out of the vent like an open faucet, the carpet was soaked as was the soffit. What a mess!!!
Luckily not a piece of furniture was damaged. The pie safe that was right next to the vent, water pouring down from the ceiling. Not a drop!

Water shut off, a trip upstairs to call the plumber at 5:15 AM, only to be told we would be put in an 8:00-12:00 Que. Ugg!!!
Sure the water was coming from the bathroom, I did a check, nope it was dry. Then I turned into the kitchen and yup, water all over the kitchen floor. It seemed to be more refrigerator oriented than dishwasher. A trip back downstairs with every towel from the linen closet, and the sopping up began.
The carpet has luckily dried out with the help of fans blowing, there are no signs of mold yet on the soffit. The kitchen floor seems to be fine. The plumber put a shutoff valve on the water to the fridge for us. Good thing because it took an additional 5 days for Samsung to get out here to fix the fridge.
Then there is the bathtub faucet. This expensive faucet for us, was a splurge 6 years ago when we redid the bathroom. Initially I was sure the leak had to do with the tub faucet and a potential broken pipe. We have been fighting the faucet for months. A Moen, which is a company I have relied on for years, was hard to open a close. You had to twist way too much to turn it on and off. Visions of another bathroom reno were unhappily dancing in my head. I love this bathroom and still like the tile. Designing this bathroom for the long term, and having no desire to change anything, all we could do was let the cards fall where they may, and wait for judgement day.

The plumber just left. He came yesterday and gave us two estimates that were both eye popping. Ok well what else can go wrong? Let’s hope for the least eye popper. Happily he just needed to replace the cartridge not the valve. And, he was able to do it without any damage to the tile surround. The least eye popper. A good day all around.
Avery (the plumber) sent me into the bathroom to test the waters!!! I turned the faucet on with such ease I almost catapulted myself into our bedroom. Ok I don’t think this faucet has ever worked this well. Happy Day!
It’s funny how the appliances that we take for granted, can cause us so much grief. You live with it, saying you’ll get to that one of these days and bam, you get slammed. I wonder what is lurking just around the corner. For now I will just breathe a sigh of relief, and hope what’s lurking stays hidden for a long while.
Thanks for stopping
Shelley
