New LVT Floors for the Kitchen, Living Room, Hall and Home Office

After the kitchen was done (see previous two posts) we immediately through ourselves into painting, knowing we wanted to get that done before the new flooring went in.  I opted for  Benjamin Moore Coastal Fog for the walls.  I had used this color in the lower level room and I find it to be a soothing quiet color.   It was a nice change from the darker brown I had on the walls before.  As down stairs I tend to use a lot of accessories in my designs so I do like a quiet room.  Hmm it may have something to do with my age!

This photos is from a several years ago.

I ended up with brown walls because when the carpet was installed I decided the only way to get rid of baby poop brown carpet was to paint the walls baby poop brown!  Ah even designers have OOPS’.  Lived with that one for a loooong time.

What a mess glad we won’t have to that again for a while.

When I was trying to decide on flooring to replace the carpet in the living room and the laminate in the kitchen I of course was sure I would go with an engineered hardwood.  This is something we definitely don’t want to replace again.  Having a split entry house there is a constant traffic pattern between the stairs and the kitchen.  Let me tell you, I am so done with that.  The other consideration was the home offices.  We each have one and we use them completely different.  My office is also my craft room.  I spend all of my time in this room.  It gets messy.  The floors the desk top you name it.  Crafting and design are messy endeavors!  I needed something I didn’t need to worry about.  I knew engineered hardwood, glue and paint probably wouldn’t be friends.

After doing some research and talking to my flooring specialist whom I’ve known for years I decided on Luxury Vinyl Planks that look like wood.  We are very pleased with the results. We like the way it feels under foot and it looks great.

Everything we’ve thrown at it so far including paint has wiped right up.  The only thing we don’t like is the dust.  Did we have dust before?  I didn’t know that!

Just having the kitchen and living room flooring the same made a huge impact. We decided to let the professionals do the install.  We needed young knees and young backs.  They knocked it out in 2 days and I’m sure we would have been at it a week!  Then they came back and did the 2 offices after we off loaded those two rooms.  That was a huge undertaking particularly for my office. If you’re a designer or crafter you know what I mean.  The purging I did before was huge.

For area rugs, I selected one from Pottery Barn that I had actually used in a clients home.  I loved it so much I decided I needed it too.  It’s very interesting though.  In her home it reads blue and in my kitchen it definitely reads grey. Aah the big blue tarp protecting the patio furniture from the snow.

Then I also used the chunky jute rug in grey from Pottery Barn for the living room.  Then in the hall I have an oriental runner that I brought from my parents home.

On the stairs I used carpet and I love the grey plaid.  Since it’s the first thing you see when you come in the door I wanted a bit of a statement there.

Short and sweet for a change.  Thanks for taking your time to stop by.
