Usually by the first week of January I am ready to say goodbye to Christmas Decor. This year not so much. I loved my Christmas this year. Lush, full of texture and eye candy everywhere. I doubt I will ever be able to top what was done, this year. That being said, it was time. I was actually mourning the loss of all that glitters! I knew the only way to solve this problem was to invent something new. A new approach to the same old, same old.
After getting most of the upstairs decor down, I had to decide what to do with the Welsh Cupboard. Always the focal point, I had to rethink the cupboard, as well as the cubby and the kitchen table. With the red ware on loan to the lower level, I decided to bring up the blue and white transferware, to the cupboard. After spending many, many years downstairs I brought it back up.
The first few days I wasn’t sure about this transition. I was so used to a much heavier look. But as the winter morning light plays its magic, I have grown to love the new look. It is simple and a bit spare, but some of my favorite pieces are here. I walk down the hall and I say to myself oh yeah, this works.
There is something very quiet and serene about the blue. It just seems to say ahhh! The Husband came to me and said “I know what your hobby is”. You do, do yeah! “Yes, you tear things up, to clean them up!!!!” Yup, he is 100% right.

Something about the dark green finish on the cupboard, that I absolutely love with the blue and white. I’ve left a few winter greens about.

I love my pie crust table so much but, it is in desperate need of a reboot. I can’t seem to decide on whether to strip or paint. I really just want to paint it but I can’t decide on a color. Any suggestions? It has to work with the green cupboard.

And then there is the ship. It looks so bare and lonely without all its snuggley greens. This probably made me the saddest, when taking stuff down.

The table just got a familiar reboot with my advertising ironstone. The figurine always reminds me of my dad. he was always working in the garage and often had a pipe in his mouth. The man is plaining a piece of wood.

The cubby got all the Doulton Lambeth Pubware. I’ve never used it in there and with the introduction of some pewter and wood pieces I quite like it. It’s all about the shadows!

Everything upstairs has been put to rights. Downstairs is almost done. I’ve made a couple of swaps down there too. Nothing major but I think it’s better.
Thanks for stopping
Shelley

Our Christmas stayed up longer this year too. New house, fiddling with how I wanted it, greatly satisfied with the results. Didn’t use everything I wanted to so next year I’ll take a cue from you and do bedrooms and bathroom too. I ❤️ the blue and white you moved in here. Green and blue combo is a favorite of mine. I really like how the wood tones of the pie crust table play with the frames on either side of the green hutch but painting is much easier. Maybe charcoal like the touches of black from the lamps or pull the color of the sailboat sails over there or I really like the dark teal metal shade of the Lamp in the corner. If you go cream be careful not too light or the drapes may appear dirty. Been there done that.I’m seeing now how the rooms all fit together from these photos, lovely, the pub ware in the cubby is everything, especially repeating the arch with that bowl. ❤️
Thanks Pamela I keep looking for inspiration for that table while I’m working on other things. I know I will have an AHA moment eventually, I just wish it would come soon!
